Shalvi is the last netheir to testify. He seems like a strong and silent type; his voice is low and his sentences are on the shorter side. He confirms the other netheir’s testimonies before telling his unique story.
“I’m the only netheir who has never founded a nethekan. I was satisfied with a dedicated wing in Basara’s temple-palace. The Sunawamati saw my modesty and reserved nature, and they came to trust me. They still allow me alone to witness their closed practices. They know that I won’t reveal any of their secrets. It is no surprise that they approached me with an important, confidential request: ‘Use your proximity to Basara to spy on him for us, so we may help the resistance.’ I said yes. I testified in detail about that experience after the Forinetheir were defeated, so I find it unnecessary to recount each detail.
“I interacted with Varik often. He flitted between each netheir’s temple-palace according to his whims. He often told me his plans, unaware that I was a spy. He expected me to keep his secrets. Before he preyed on Araminta, he visited me. He said other netheir were barriers in the way of Forinetheir’s success, and she was the easiest to topple. To paraphrase, she was kinder than she was smart. He sounded excited to control her. He did not tell me exactly how he planned to manipulate the remaining five netheir. I assumed he viewed them in a similar light.”
